Heritage Restorations was established in 1985. The owner, Stephen Carveth Rice, was trained professionally in Paris, France under the tutelage of Francois Germond, formally of the House of Jansen. The company offers antique restoration and conservation. Clients include private and government settings in Washington's homes and historical institutions and museums.Heritage Restorations specializes in 18th and 19th century antiques.
Mr.Rice began his career as a restorer of English Antiques in Monterrey, CA. Dedicated to the artistic integrity of his craft, Stephen traveled to Paris,France for further training. While in Paris, Stephen learned the old world techniques that have been handed down among furniture craftsman for centuries. Waxes and polishes are individually blended according to original formulas. Repairs, rebuilding and joinery are performed in the tradition of the old masters.
At the end of his tenure with Germond, Stephen came to Washington, D.C. In 1985, he founded his own company, Heritage Restorations located on Antique Row in Kensington, MD.. Since then, Stephen has developed a following among private collectors, dealers, decorators and government institutions.
