Michael Salem is also the cousin of Harvey Milk, the gay San Francisco supervisor, who was assassinated in November of 1978. Mr. Milk’s life is the subject of “Milk,” the biopic starring Sean Penn and James Franco. Mr. Salem supplied the producers of the film with family history and images and was invited to the New York premiere and attended the ceremony for Harvey Milk’s Presidential Medal of Freedom honor.
