Services: I work primarily with adolescents and young adults who are struggling with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, self-harm, stress, or OCD. Knowledge is power. Thus, psycho-education about the client’s condition and the appropriate treatment is an integral part of my therapeutic approach, particularly in the initial stages. I utilize empirically-supported treatments including CBT (cognitive-behavior therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) to help clients resolve symptoms, prevent relapse, achieve their goals, and create more meaningful lives. I have a special interest in adolescent eating disorders. My philosophy regarding eating disorders is based on the most recent scientific research suggesting that anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are biologically-based mental illnesses which are triggered by dieting and perpetuated by malnutrition, with emotional stress as an aggravating factor. For adolescents with eating disorders, I use the Maudsley Model of Family-Based Treatment, a highly practical, empirically-supported treatment which enlists the entire family as a resource in supporting the patient’s recovery.
